About Knight Partners

We represent only business owners, not buyers.

Knight Partners is a mergers and acquisition firm specializing in business valuations, valuation improvement services and business sales. Our clientele generally consists of businesses with annual revenue ranging from $2 million to $50 million. 

We are a team of entrepreneurs serving fellow entrepreneurs. We have successfully executed ~300 transactions, encompassing partial to full business sales. Financial and strategic buyers have included individuals, family offices, private equity groups, and private and public companies.

Our primary objective is to ensure that business owners realize the value they deserve. We achieve this by being analytical, thorough, clear in our communication, and robust in our representation. We understand the valuation methods employed by buyers and apply the same techniques, but from the perspective of the owners or sellers. We provide valuation and valuation improvement services that optimize and validate the value of the business. 

Knight Partners is focused on the construction industry trades such as HVAC, architectural sign companies, electrical, and plumbing.

David Knight, CM&AP, CVB

For several decades, I’ve been on a multifaceted entrepreneurial journey engaged in various business sectors. I’ve gained considerable expertise and insight in sustainability, operations, finance, and the valuation and sale of businesses - and find great satisfaction in facilitating deals and assisting business owners.

 

I’ve held roles as a founder, board member, or senior executive in six startup companies. Three of these ventures were launched in partnership with Ann Knight. One example was a business brokerage firm specializing in Mergers & Acquisitions within the healthcare sector. For 12 years, we exclusively represented the owners/sellers of medical practices. Our mission was to protect our clients’ assets, enhance the value of their businesses, and aid them in fulfilling their retirement goals.

Ann Knight

David and I have had the pleasure of founding three businesses together, all from our offices on Bainbridge Island, just west of Seattle.

 

I oversee the company’s marketing initiatives. This includes managing client marketing strategies, project management, and ensuring brand development and communication continuity within the context of client services.

 

During our 16-year tenure at Teragren, we spearheaded the creation of an industry-leading, environmentally and socially conscious bamboo flooring manufacturing company. Teragren products were sold through more than 4,000 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada, with an annual manufacturing and sales volume exceeding 5 million square feet.

 

Under my leadership, the company earned placement on Inc. Magazine’s list of “The Green 50” companies setting the standard for environmentally-friendly businesses.  In addition, David and I were named one of the “Top Ten Green-trepreneurs” by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine. For five consecutive years, our bamboo hardwood flooring received the #1 rating by Consumer Reports

VALUING
your business

We license the Value Builder System™ and use it to initially assess the value of your business by comparing it with industry averages. We collaborate with you to improve the factors driving its value. This generally leads to an increase in the value of your business but is still based on industry averages. 

Subsequently, we produce a discounted cash flow valuation model tailored specifically to your business. This establishes a defensible probable selling price range. Our process results in two approaches to business value; one comparing your business to industry averages; the other is unique to your business - because you aren’t average, are you?

Your valuation report is kept confidential and is not shared with potential buyers.

SELLING
your business

Knight Partners provides a service for selling businesses that ensures confidentiality.  We create an anonymous Teaser and a detailed Confidential Information Memorandum (CIM) describing your business opportunity.

The Teaser is used to promote your business to potential buyers. After confirming their interest, eligibility, and obtaining their signature on our Non-Disclosure Agreement, we present your CIM to them, subject to your approval.

We manage the negotiations to secure the best price and terms, manage the due diligence, and liaise with your other advisors to ensure a smooth transaction, aiming for a seamless and rewarding selling process.
